Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about OpenGate.
OpenGate is a community-built, anonymous resource designed to help non-revenue travellers navigate standby travel with airlines other than their own employer. It is designed to complement official resources such as flyzed.info by providing real-world feedback, tips, and experiences from fellow standby travellers.
While official pages cover formal rules, expectations, and ticketing agreements, OpenGate focuses on practical, real-world experiences. This includes insights into check-in procedures, baggage policies, upgrade likelihood, and local airport tips.
OpenGate is built for the entire non-revenue community, including those who have access to benefits through others.
You can submit a report on the Submit Report page.
You can submit a correction through the same form as for flight experiences.
The database is updated frequently. You can expect to see your experiences reflected within 1 week of a flight report. You can view the last time that an airline page was updated at the bottom of the page.
Yes, all reports are fully anonymous and we will never ask for your personal information.
No, non-revenue experiences are often different when travelling on your own airline and OpenGate is designed for those travelling on airlines other than their employer.
We ask that you keep all feedback objective and fair regarding your experiences. Please do not include any of your personal information or any names of employees that you interacted with. We also ask that you do not include any proprietary or commercially sensitive information. All feedback is vetted to ensure that it is in keeping with these rules.
You may see fare codes referenced to describe classes of travel. OpenGate is standardised and will use: Y (Economy), W (Premium Economy), J (Business or US Domestic First), F (International First). You may occasionally see C used to represent Business.
